The Malaysian Homestay Experience Programme is an official community-based tourism initiative led by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture [MOTAC].
Unlike standard rental accommodation, this programme requires guests to live directly with a certified local host family in an authentic kampung [traditional village] to experience rural community life first hand.
As of 2026, the nationwide initiative continues to expand with more than 250 homestay clusters operating across nearly 600 participating villages and supported by over 3500 registered operators
